Section 4
Marin Cilic has underlined his potential as an outside threat by reaching the final at the Queen’s Club in London. A former US Open champion, the Croat remains one of the most consistent players on the tour. He reached the quarter-finals in six out of his last seven tournaments.
“I’m playing really well on grass,” Cilic said. “My form the last couple of months, I’m getting better and better. The last three years at Wimbledon, I had really good results. Last year was my third quarter-final.”
Cilic will start against Philipp Kohlschreiber followed by either Florian Mayer or Viktor Troicki. Then a potential meeting with 26th seed Steve Johnson looms.
Hoping to prevent Cilic’s route into the last eight will be ninth seed Kei Nishikori. The Japanese player has recently been dogged by injury on the grass and withdrew from the Halle Open due to a problem with his back. Nishikori, who has never progressed beyond the fourth round at SW19, will start his campaign against Marco Cecchinato. Roberto Bautista Agut is also in the section and could play Nishikori in the last 32.
