Casper Ruud beat Federico Cora 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 28 minutes to claim the third ATP Tour title of his career at the Nordea Open in Bastad.
Ruud has already clinched the Geneva Open title beating Denis Shapovalov last May. He has a 3-2 record in his five career finals. Last year he lifted the Buenos Aires title on clasy last year.
Ruud, who did not a set all week, broke twice in the second and fourth games to open up a 4-0 lead. Coria pulled one break back in the fifth game, but Ruud held his next two service games to claim the first set 6-3.
Ruud won 80% of points on Coria’s first serve and broke serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. The Norwegian player went up a double break to race out to a 5-2 lead. Coria pulled one break back in the eighth game, but Ruud sealed the second set with his third break with a forehand winner.
“It was an incredible week, probably the best week of my life. It is an incredible feeling playing here in Bastad with the Swedish, Norwegian and Danish support. There is nothing like that home crowd feeling. To win here means a lot. You get a little extra nervous as the number 1 seed. Me and my father Christian have been joking about when I am going to beat him at this and this. I think I have beaten him in everything”, said Ruud.
