Borna Coric saved one match point to beat Chile’s Christian Garin 6-7 (4-7) 6-3 7-6 (8-6) after 2 hours and 30 minutes at the Libema Open at s’Hertogenbosch.
Garin did not convert two break points on Coric’s serve at 5-5 15-40. The Chilean player won six of the first seven points in the tie-break and sealed the first set on his fourth set point.
Coric broke twice at 3-3 and at 5-3 to win the second set 6-3.
Coric came back from 2-5 down in the third set and fended off one match point with his 16th ace at 5-6 in the tie-break of the third set.
“It was a hard match. I had to recover from a double break down at 2-5 in the third set. I tried to relax and I started to play better”, said Coric.
Coric set up a semifinal against Adrian Mannarino, who fought back from one set down to beat David Goffin 4-6 6-3 6-2. Goffin broke twice to race out to a 4-0 lead. Mannarino pulled one break back in the sixth game to claw his way back to 2-4. Goffin broke for the third time to race out to a 5-2 lead. Mannarino broke back for the second time in the eighth game. Goffin sealed the first set on his second set point.
Both players traded breaks twice in the second set to draw level to 4-4. Goffin did not convert one break point at 5-5 at 5-5. Mannarino converted his second break point chance in the 12th game to seal the second set 7-5.
Mannarino saved two break points in the third and fifth game of the decider before breaking serve in the eighth game to close out the third set 6-2.
Jordan Thompson came back from one set down to beat Alex De Minaur 4-6 6-3 6-2 in an all-Australian quarter final clash.
