Holger Rune beat Felix Auger Aliassime 6-4 6-2 in the semifinal of the Paris Rolex Masters at the Accor Hotel Arena in Paris Bercy.
Rune converted three of the eight break pomts to close out the match in 58 minutes. The Danish player avenged his defeat against Auger Aliassime, who beat his Canadian rival in their recent head-to-head match in the Basel final last Sunday.
Rune stopped Auger Aliassime’s winning streak of 16 consecutive matches.
Rune earned his first break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead, as Auger Aliassime netted a forehand drive volley on break point. The Danish Next Gen player held on his serve in the next service games to wrap up the first set 6-4. Rune won 89% of his first serve points.
Rune raced out to a a 4-0 lead with a double break In the second and fourth games of the second set and held his next service games to seal his 18th ATP Tour win in 20 matches. The Canadian player won three consecutive indoor court titles in Florence, Antwerp and Basel this autumn season.
This week Rune beat Hubert Hurkacz, Andrey Rublev, Carlos Alcaraz and Auger Aliassime en route to his first Masters 1000 final. On Sunday he will aim to win his fifth top 10 match in as many days.
Rune will face six-time Paris Bercy champion Novak Djokovic or Stefanos Tsitsipas in Sunday’s final.
“It was an unbelievable match from my side today. I was really sticking to the game plan for the whole match and just taking every chance I got Putting Felix under pressure, that’s what my game plan was all about, and I managed to do it almost perfectly. I am super happy how I handled everything”, said Rune.
