Former world number 1 Kim Cljisters turned down the wild-card to play at the Australian Open next February. The Belgian player won four Grand Slam titles, including the Australian Open in 2011.
Clijsters made her come-back last year after more than seven years of retirement at the Dubai Tennis Championships last February as a wildcard. Clijsters lost to this year’s Australian Open finalist Garbine Muguruza in the first round.
Cljisters entered the Monterrey Tournament as a wild card, but she lost to Joanna Konta in the first round. At the US Open she lost to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the first round at the Australian Open. She is now ranked outside the top 1000. According to Belgian media Kim wants to stay with her family and her three children.
