Novak Djokovic eases past Jan Lennard Struff 6-3 6-1 after 62 minutes to get through to the eighth semifinal of his career at the Western and Southern Open in New York. Djokovic tied Jimmy Connors, Stefan Edberg, Roger Federer and Bill Talbert’s record of eight semifinals at the Western and Southern Open.
Djokovic converted the only break point in the fourth game to open up a 3-1 lead. The Serbian player held on his next service games and converted his first set point with a forehand down the line to win the first set 6-3.
Djokovic broke three times to race out to a 5-0 lead in the second set. Struff avoided the bagel by converting his third break point chance in the sixth game, as Djokovic was serving out the match.
Djokovic sealed the second set 6-1 with a break at love in the seventh game.
Djokovic has extended his winning streak to 21-0, including two titles at the Australian Open and Dubai.
The World Number 1 set up a semifinal against Roberto Bautista Agut. Djokovic leads 8-3 in his previous 11 head-to-head matches against Bautista Agut.
“It was great. I started a little bit tight in my opening couple of service games. Ever since I made that break at the beginning of the first set, I never looked back. I really played very aggressive whenever I had the chance and I was going for my shots”, said Djokovic.
