Juan Martin del Potro
Former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro has first hand experience of what it is like to return from injury. He also know what it is like to play a 2017 Roger Federer.
A mouthwatering third-round clash at the Miami Open saw Federer triumph in straight sets over the Argentine. It was his third consecutive win over Del Potro and his 16th overall. Even prior to their clash, the 28-year-old gave high praise to the 18-time grand slam champion.
“It doesn´t surprise me that he is playing at that level.” Said Del Potro. “If he continues like this, he will be able to comeback where he deserves to be. For sure he has a chance to be a World No. 1 again. His backhand improved a lot and he manages to win also when he doesn´t play his best tennis.”
Del Potro is one of only two Argentinian players to have defeated Federer since 2008. The other was Frederico Delbonis, who triumphed at the 2013 Hamburg Open.
