Rain washed out the Thursday programme at the Apia International in Sydney. This means that players will face a double duty on Friday.

All players will return to the Sydney Olympic Park to resume play on Friday at 10.30 am local time with the quarter final match between Australian star Bernard Tomic and Teymuraz Gabashvili.

The semifinals will be also played on Friday. The final is scheduled on Saturday.

Grigor Dimitrov was leading 4-6 6-3 4-2, when play was suspended for the second time on Thursday afternoon. In the opening set which featured three breaks of serve, Dolgopolov got the decisive break in the ninth game for 5-4 before holding his serve in the next game to take the first set. The second set went on serve until the eighth game when Dimitrov got the break after Dolgopolov made a double fault. In the third set Dolgopolov dropped his serve on the seventh break point chance in a very long third game. The set went on serve until 4-2 when the match was interrupted by rain.

Elsewhere, Viktor Troicki was drawing 2-2 against Nicolas Mahut in the first set and Gilles Muller went up a set after taking the tie-break 7-5 against Jeremy Chardy in a first set without break points.

Only one doubles match was completed. Rohan Bopanna and Florin Mergea, who finished runner-up at last year’s ATP Finals in London, beat Sam Groth and John Peers 6-2 6-4. Jamie Murray and Bruno Soares were leading 6-4 3-3 against Matt Reid and Jordan Thompson when the match was suspended.
