Stan Wawrinka and Tomas Berdych advance to the quarter finals in Paris Bercy

This year’s Roland Garros champion Stan Wawrinka beat Viktor Toicki 6-4 7-5 to advance to the quarter finals- Wawrinka converted his break point chance in the fourth game with a backhand winner to take a 3-1 lead. Troicki went down 0-30 in the sixth game but won four consecutive points to hold his serve for 2-4.

After two double faults by Wawrinka, Troicki converted his first break-back point chance with a passing shot. Troicki won his third consecutive game on serve to draw level. Wawrinka got his second break in the 10th game to clinch the first set with 6-4.

Troicki saved two break points at the start of the second set before breaking serve to love for 3-2. Troicki won the next four points to back up his break for 4-2. Wawrinka saved two break points to claw his way back to 3-4.

Wawrinka converted his first break back chance to draw level to 4-4 before holding his service game with a backhand volley. Wawrinka faced three break points at 5-6 but saved them with two serves and a forehand to hold his serve after a 10-minute game. Wawrinka broke serve before closing out on his second match point with 6-4 7-5. Wawrinka now leads 4-0 in his head-to-head matches against Troicki.

Tomas Berdych beat Jo Wilfried Tsonga 6-3 6-4 in a match between two past winners of the Paris Bercy Masters 1000 tournament. Berdych broke serve in the sixth game with a backhand return to take a 4-2 lead- The 2005 Paris Bercy champion served out to win the first set 6-3 after 35 minutes.

Tsonga received treatment on his knee at the start of the second set after dropping his serve in the first game of the second set. Berdych got a double break to race out to 4-0 in the second set. Tsonga got his first game of the second set on the scoreboard before breaking serve for 2-4. The Frenchman won his third consecutive game to claw his way back to 3-4. Berdych won the next game to love for 5-3. Tsonga hit two aces to go up 40-15 but Berdych forced the game to deuce with a smash

Berdych served out on his first match point for 6-4 to win for the seventh time in 10 head-to-head matches against Tsonga.

Berdych avenged the defeat against Tsonga who won their previous match at the Roland Garros last spring 6-3 6-3 6-7 (5-7) 6-3 to claim a spot in the top-eight.

Berdych will face Novak Djokovic in the quarter final tomorrow.
