Andy Murray is currently training on the indoor clay court at the Queen’s Club with Aljaz Bedene (a British player of Slovenian origin) in the build-up to the Davis Cup Final between Belgium and Great Britain before switching to hard-court this week-end for the upcomining ATP Finals in London.
Murray has admitted that his preparation for the ATP Finals is not ideal.
“The way I am preparing for the O2 is not ideal. I wouldn’t think any of the players would prepare by preparing on clay for four days. I have tried to juggle the two, so that I don’t have to miss the O2 but also give myself a good chance of playing well at the Davis Cup. It’s important that I am not too hard on myself and don’t just expect to play great tennis at the start of the 02 as soon as I switch back on the hard courts.”, said Murray
Juggling two different surfaces requires different skills and movement could cause a physical danger.
“I need to respect what the change to the clay can do to my body and what can do to my game because it’s a completely different movement. I will be practising one set of movements till Thursday and having to change that again and maybe play the first match on Sunday, it’s going to be tricky”, admitted Murray.
