Adrian Mannarino upsets Danil Medvedev in s’Hertogenbosch

Adrian Mannarino came back from one set down to upset Danil Medvedev 4-6 6-4 6-2 at the Libema Open in s’Hertogenbosch. 

Mannarino avenged his semifinal against Medvedev in the semifinal of last year’s edition of the s’Hertogenbosch tournament. The Frenchman has improved his head-to-head record against Medvedev to 4-2. 

Medvedev broke serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead, but Mannarino pulled back on serve in the next game to draw level to 3-3. Medvedev broke for the second time in the seventh game to take a 4-3 lead and held his next two service games to win the first set 6-4. 

Mannarino broke serve in the second game to take a 2-0 lead. Medvedev broke straight back in the third game to draw level to 2-2. Mannarino saved a break point in the seventh game before earning his second break in the 10th game to close out the second set 6-4. 

Mannarino broke twice in the fourth and eighth games to win the third set 6-2 after 1 hour and 59 minutes. 

Mannarino has now clinched nine wins against top ten players. With his win against a top 10 opponent on grass. 

Mannarino set up a quarter final match against Australia’s Jordan Thompson, who beat Canada’s Milos Raonic 7-6 (7-4) 6-1. Raonic was making his come-back after being sidelined by injury for two years. 

Thompson saved two break points in the 12th game before winning the tie-break 7-4 with a mini-break. Thompson broke twice in the fourth and sixth games to win the second set 6-1. 

Sixth seed Tallon Griekspoor eased past Alexei Popyrin 6-3 6-2 to reach his fourth tour-level quarter final of the season. Griekspoor broke once in the second game of the first set and in the first first and seventh games of the second set. 

Giekspoor set up a quarter final against Alex De Minaur, who edged past Laslo Djere 6-1 6-7 (5-7) 6-3.
