Holger Rune beat Diego Schwartzman 6-4 6-2 in 92 minutes to reach the fourth round at the Miami Open on Court Butch Buchholz at Hard Rock Stadium. Rune converted all four break points he earned.

Rune earned his first break in the opening game to seal the first set 6-4. The Danish player broke three times to win the second set 6-2 to improve his win-loss record this season to 14-2. He is aiming to win the fourth ATP title of his career after his triumphs in Munich, Stockolm and Paris Bercy.

Rune set up a third round match against Taylor Fritz, who beat Denis Shapovalov 6-4 6-4.

“It was very important to get in front early. Diego is very strong. My focus was really to be strong every time I played to put him under pressure, and I did that very well. I am super happy at how composed I stayed today. It’s 30°C. So it was going to be tough physically if I didn’t stay on the front foot. My focus was really to step in every time I could and play my game. I think there were a few rallies where I did not, but 95% of the match was played on my terms, which was what I wanted. I am super happy that I was able to break him and I only got broken once, because he is super strong as a return player”, said Rune.

Andrey Rublev cruised past Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1 6-2 in 58 minutes to advance to the fourth round. Rublev has improved his win-loss record to 2-0 in his head-to-head matches against Kecmanovic. Rublev earned two breaks in each set.

Rublev will face either Jannik Sinner or Grigor Dimitov in the fourth round.

Rublev achieved  his best result in Miami in 2021, when he reached the semifinal in 2021.

Earlier this year Rublev beat Rune in five sets in the Round of 16 before losing to Novak Djokovic in the quarter final at the Australian Open. Last February the Russian player finished runner-up to his compatriot Danil Medvedev in the final in Dubai. In Indian Wells he lost to Cameron Norrie on the Round of 16.
