Danil Medvedev beat Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-3 7-5 to reach the semifinals at Indian Wells for the first time in his career.
Medvedev earned a break in the the second game of the first set and dropped just six points on his serve en route to winning the first set in 39 minutes.
Davidovich Fokina earned a break point in each of Medvedev’s first three service games and went up 0-40 on return in the eighth game, but Medvedev saved three break points. Medvedev broke Davidovich Fokina at love to take a 6-5 lead before sealing the win with a service winner.
Medvedev has extended his winning streak to 18 consecutive wins. The Russian player is chasing his fourth consecutive title after winning three tournaments in a row In Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai.
Medvedev has reached the quarter final at all six hard-court ATP Masters 1000.
“I am actually happy my ankle did not hurt much because when I warmed up. It was hurting pretty bad. I new I was going to play, but I could not move well on the warm-up. I tried to warm it uo as long as possible, took one painkiller, so that probably helped. I was actually feeling better and better during the match. The match was absolutely crazy. I am just happy to go through such a tough match with such tough conditions with the wind”, said Medvedev.
