Jack Draper rallied from one set down to beat Chen Hsun Tseng 1-4 4-2 4-3 (7-2) 4-2 improving his record to 1-1 in Red Group after his defeat against Dominic Stricker in the first day of the Next Gen ATP Finals.
Draper remains in contention for a spot in the semifinal with this win.
Draper held serve at love in his opening service game, but he dropped serve in the fourth game to trail 1-3 in the opening set. Tseng wasted one set point with a double fault, but he converted his second chance.
Both players held serve to love in their first service games of the second set. Tseng hit two consecutive winners to take a 40-15 lead on serve, while he was 3-2 down in the second set, but Draper won three points to earn his first break drawing the match level to 1-1.
Both players went on serve in the third set. Draper won four of the first five points and hit two aces in a tie-break to win the tie-break 7-2 moving up 2-1.
Draper earned a break point in the fifth game of the fourth set after a double fault from Tseng. The British player converted it, before earned a break-back point. However, Draper fended off the break point before holding serve to seal the win.
Draper won 83% of his first serve points and hit six aces to just one for Chun-Hsin Tseng.
Draper is currently third in the Red Group before his match against Lorenzo Musetti on Thursday.
“I thought Stricker played an amazing match yesterday, so all credit to him. I maybe wasn’t at my best. but I thought he played an exceptionally good match, so it was tough to sleep last night knowing that I played OK and still lost. Today I knew it would be a really tough match and I came out a bit slow but I had a good talking to myself and tried to really find a way. I was able to do that today, so I am really happy”, said Draper.
