Second seeds Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic clinched their fifth doubles title this season at the Astana Open beating Adrian Mannarino and Fabrice Martin 6-4 6-2 in the 65-minute final.
Mektic and Pavic fired nine aces and saved three break points they faced. They broke once in the third game of the first set and twice in the first and in the fifth games of the second set.
The Croatian team advanced to the semifinals at the ATP Finals in Turin last year. They are currently fourth in the ATP Race Doubles ranking. They have won tiitles on all surfaces this year. They won two titles in Rome and Geneva and two consecutive grass titles at Queen’s and Eastbourne.
“We are very happy. We played a great match today. After a grass-court season, this is our first title and we are very happy, confident and motivated for the end of the season. It is a very strong tournament and we are very happy and proud we came out on top”, said Mektic. Mannarino was playing in his first ATP Tour-level final. Martin was chasing his eighth career title and the first ATP title since 2021, when he triumphed in Antwerp together with Nicholas Mahut.
