Ekaterina Alexandrova beat number 1 seed Jelena Ostapenko 7-6 (7-0) 6-0 in the Hana Bank Open final in Seoul. Alexandrova now leads 5-2 in her seven head-to-head matches against Ostapenko.
Alexandrova won her third WTA Tour title in her five finals following her previous triumphs in Shenzhen 2021 and s’Hertogenbosch 2022.
Alexandrova came back from a break down three times in the opening set and fended off a set point, when she was serving at 5-6.
Ostapenko led 2-0 in the tie-break, but Alexandrova won seven of the next nine points to close out the opening set with an inside-in forehand.
Alexandrova went up a 3-0 lead in the second set. Ostapenko received a medical time-out to treat a her right foot. Alexandrova dropped just one point and closed out the match with consecutive backhand winners.
Kristina Mladenovic and Yanina Wickmayer beat Asia Muhammad and Sabrina Santamaria 6-3 6-2 to win the doubles title.
