Felix Auger Aliassime recovers from a slow start to beat Carlos Taberner at Estoril Open

Felix Auger Aliassime recovered from a slow start to beat Carlos Taberner 1-6 6-2 6-2 after 1 hour and 55 minutes reaching the quarter finals at the Millenium Estoril Open. 

Auger Aliassime won just 38% of his first serve points and saved just one of the four break points he faced. 

Auger Aliassime turned around 60% of his service points and 58% of his return points converting three of his six break points. 

The young Canadian player won 92% of his first serve points. He did not face any break points in the third set and converted two of his five break points improving his lead over Taberner to 2-0 in their head-to-head matches. 

“It was windy today. I was not patient in the first set, going for too much. I changed my mindset I was ready to leave my body on the line and battle it out rally after rally. I got a little bit more confident as the match went on. He is a tricky opponent on clay, he makes yoy work”, said Auger Aliassime. 

Auger Aliassime set up a quarter final match against Sebastian Korda, who knocked out Benjamin Bonzi 6-3 6-3 in 1 hour and 21 minutes. Korda converted four of seven break points. Korda broke twice in the ninth and ninth games to win the first set 6-3. Korda went up a break in the second game to take a 3-0 lead. Bonzi broke back at love for 2-3. Korda earned his second break in the sixth game and saved a break point to serve out the win at deuce in the ninth game. 

Auger Aliassime won his only previous head-to-head match against Korda in Acapulco last year. 

Sebastian Baez came back from one set down to beat Marin Cilic 1-6 6-1 6-4 in 1 hour and 52 minutes. Baez, who reached his first final in Santiago, will take on Frenchman Richard Gasquet, who defeated Hugo Dellien 7-6 (7-5) 6-2 after 2 hours and 11 minutes.
