Roger Federer has been voted as the winner of the Fan’s Favourite in the 2021 ATP Award for the 19th time in his career.
The 20-time Grand Slam champion made his come-back to the ATP Tour last March in Doha after undergoing two arthroscopic knee surgeries in 2020. He reached the quarter final at Wimbledon before losing to Hubert Hurkacz. He became the oldest Wimbledon quarter finalist in the Open Era, breaking the record held by Ken Rosewall. Last August Federer underwent another knee surgery after another injury during during the grass season and was forced to withdraw from the US Open.
“The crowd were amazing. The ovation was fantastic. I loved it. That’s why I still play now”, said Federer.
The 40-year-old Swiss player also won the Stefan Edberg Sportsmanship Award 13 times and was the recipient of the Comeback Player of the year in 2017, when he won the Australian Open and Wimbledon after being sidelined by a knee injury for six months. He holds record sas the oldest world number 1 player at the age of 36 and for most consecutive weeks at number 1 (237). He won 103 ATP Tour titles and owns 1251 match wins. At Grand Slam level he ties with Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal for most major titles (20). He boasts tournament records for most championships at Basel (10), Halle (10) and Wimbledon (8), Cincinnati (7) and at the ATP Finals (6).
