Novak Djokovic won his third consecutive match in Group Green at the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin, cruising past Cameron Norrie 6-2 6-1 after 66 minutes.
Djokovic earned two breaks in the first and fifth games to race out to a 4-1 lead after just 18 minutes. The world number 1 hit 11 winners and won 92% of his first serve points to close out the second set 6-2 after 29 minutes.
Djokovic broke in the first game of the second set. He raced out to a 4-1 lead with a break in the fifth game. He sealed the second set 6-1 with his third break in the seventh game.
Norrie replaced Stefanos Tsitsipas, who withdrew from the tournament due to an elbow injury. The British player clinched his first tour-level title in Los Cabos and his maiden Masters 1000 trophy in Indian Wells.
Djokovic set up a semifinal clash against this year’s Olympic champion Alexander Zverev, who finished second in the Red Group, while Danil Medvedev will take on Casper Ruud, who won the decisive match against Andrey Rublev in three sets on Friday afternoon.
Djokovic is bidding to win a sixth title at the ATP Finals, which would equal the record of wins held by Roger Federer.
“I tried not to think about tomorrow’s semifinal. It is not easy to walk on the court knowing you have already qualified and you know your opponent. I tried to be professional and to give my best and I played really well. It was the first time we have played each other. I took the time away from Cameron. I analysed his game and knew the game plan and executed it very well”, said Djokovic.
