Juan Manuel Cerundolo from Argentina has qualified for the ATP Next Gen finals to be held at the Allianz Cloud in Milan from 9 to 13 November following the withdrawal of Felix Auger Aliassime.

Cerundolo becomes the first South American player in history to qualify for the under 21 end-of-season tournament.

The 19-year-old Argentine won his first ATP Tour title as a qualifier at the Cordoba Open beating Albert Ramos Vinolas in the final last February. He won eight consecutive matches in nine days in the home tournament becoming the first player to win a title on his ATP Tour debut since 2004.

Cerundolo has also become the first Argentine to win a title in his debut and the youngest Argentine champion since Guillermo Coria at Vina del Mar in 2001. He rose to world number 181 following the Cordoba title and his career-high number 141 after his first Challenger title in Rome in 2021.

“I never in my life imagined that I could win the tournament in Cordoba. So maybe that was the key, because I never felt anxious”, said Cerundolo.

He continued his sport family tradition following in the footsteps of his father Alejandro, who played tennis professionally in 1980s. His older brother Francisco also plays on the ATP Tour. His sister Maria Constanza played for Argentine field hockey team that won gold medal at 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.
