Marin Cilic beat Fabio Fognini 6-3 7-6 (7-4) to advance to the quarter final at the Queen’s in London. Cilic has extended his winning streak to seven consecutive matches
Cilic saved a break point in the third game of the opening set at deuce to hold serve before breaking serve at love to take a 3-1 lead. Cilic held his next three service games at love to win the first set 6-3.
Fognini broke serve at 15 the second game to take a 3-0 lead in the second set. Cilic broke back in the seventh game to draw level to 4-4. Cilic saved a break point in the 12th game.
Cilic earned three match points at 6-3 with three mini-breaks and converted his second chance to win the second set 7-4.
Cilic set up a quarter final match against Alex De Minaur cruised past John Millman 6-1 6-3 with five breaks of serve. De Minaur has improved his lead to 3-0 in his head-to-head matches over Millman.
Cameron Norrie beat this year’s Dubai champion Aslan Karatsev 7-5 6-2. Norrie saved a break point in the fourth game before breaking serve in the fifth game to take a 3-2 lead. Karatsev broke straight back in the sixth game to draw level to 3-3. Norrie earned his second break in the 11th game and saved two break points before closing out the first set 7-5 at deuce.
Norrie broke twice in the third and fifth games to win the second set 6-2 reaching his first grass court tour level quarter final since Eastbourne in 2018. Norrie has scored his 27th match win this season. Only Stefanos Tsitsipas, Andrey Rublev and Novak Djokovic have earned as many victories this year.
Norrie set up an all-British match against British teenager Jack Draper, who beat Kasakhstan’s Alexander Bublik 7-6 (7-5) 7-6 (7-0). Draper finished runner-up in the 2018 Wimbledon boys’ singles. “To be a quarter finalist at Queen’s sounds amazing.. I thought I blew near the end but I am glad but I am glad I stuck with it. The crowd helped helped me get over the line”, said Draper.
