World number 1 Novak Djokovic cruised past his compatriot Viktor Troicki 4-1 4-1 in the opening day of the Adria Tour.
Troicki rallied from 15-40 to 40-40 in the first game of the opening set, but Djokovic won the first game to earn a break. After two games on serve Djokovic earned the first break in the fourth game to take a 3-1 lead before holding serve in the next game.
The 2020 Australian Open champion broke serve in the first game of the second set and held his serve to open up a 2-0 lead. The Serbian player broke serve at love on match point to seal the win in straight sets.
“I really enjoyed myself out there. Viktor started well but he seemed to have lost his momentum after the opening few games and in this format the match can be over pretty quickly. Once again I want to thank every player who turned up and all the fans who flocked in, their presence has made this weekend a memorable one”, said Djokovic.
Alexander Zverev came back from one set down to beat Filip Krajnovic 0-4 4-3 (7-5) 4-3 (7-2). Krajnovic broke serve twice to take a 4-0 lead. Zverev did not convert a deciding point in the first game on return and made three double faults in the second game to drop his serve. Krajnovic earned the break in the second game of the second set and went up 30-0 in the third game. Berrettini broke back but he did not convert three chances for 3-2. Zverev won the tie-break 7-5.
Krajnovic earned an early break at the start of the third set. Zverev won ten consecutive points to take a 3-1 lead. Krajnovic broke back, as Zverev was serving for the match. Zverev did not convert his deciding point in the sixth game, but he cruised through to a 7-2 win in the tie-break.
Thiem was leading against Damir Dzumhur 2-0 in the opening set when the Bosnian player withdrew from the match with a thigh injury.
