This year’s Australian Open finalist Dominic Thiem edged Filip Krajnovic 4-3 (7-2) 2-4 4-2 in the final of the Adria Tour in Belgrade in the first week of the tournament organized by Novak Djokovic. The tournament was held in the tennis centre that bears the name of Djokovic.
Both players went on serve in the first set en route to the tie-break, where Thiem cruised through to 7-2. Krajinovic earned the first break of the match in Thiem’s second service game of the second set before taking a medical time-out to treat his right arm. The Serbian player sealed the second set 4-2, as Thiem double faulted on set point.
Thiem held serve at love in the third set and earned the break in the third game to take a 2-1 lead. Krajnovic, who beat tournament organizer Novak Djokovic yesterday, forced Thiem to serve out to win the match. Thiem earned four match points with a spectacular tweener and converted his first chance.
