Richard Gasquet is not confident that the tennis season will resume on 13th July soon after the current suspension of the ATP Tour due to the coronavirus outbreak expires.
The ATP and the WTA will take a decision on the hard-court season on 1st June.
“It’s difficult to speak on the future but it seems to me unlikely that the Tour will resume before September. I am quite pessimistic. I don’t know if there is a sport as globalized as tennis. At the moment I am not thinking about tennis. When you make a tournament, there are sixty nationalities and an incredible crowding. Travels around the world will be restricted. It will not be easy for players from many countries to travel around the world. There are many restrictions. What’s happening is surreal. People are getting through a very hard time. I cannot speak about stress, because I will not lose my job tomorrow”, said Gasquet to French sports newspaper L’Equipe
The French Tennis Federation made the decision to postpone Roland Garros to 20 September to 4 October, one week after the end of the US Open, scheduled from 31 August to 13 September.
“We must save what can be saved. The Grand Slam tournaments are the most important”.
