Rafael Nadal’s four set win over Karen Khachanov stole all the headlines on day five at the US Open as he moves one step closer to successfully defending his title.
The world number one had to battle hard as he defeated the Russia 5-7 7-5 7-6(7) 7-6(3) to make the second week of the US Open. The Spaniard had to have his knee taped up and his opponent had even served for a two set lead at one point. The drama didn’t stop there as a 39 shot rally eventually sealed the third set for Nadal and had served for the match in the fourth before being broken to love. However the Spaniard held on to seal his place in the last 16 in New York.
