The Pat Rafter Arena in Brisbane will play host to the Davis Cup first round match between Australia and Germany on hard court from 2 to 4 February 2018. The Brisbane venue hosted the quarter final match between Australia and the USA last April, when the home team prevailed by 3-2.
German brothers Alexander and Misha Zverev have already confirmed their availability to play the 2018 Davis Cup first round one week after the end of the Australian Open in Melbourne. Nick Kyrgios will lead the Australian team captained by Lleyton Hewitt.
Australia will face Germany for the eighth time in the history of the Davis Cup, but for the first time since 2012. Australia will be looking to avenge its defeat in their most recent head-to-head clash against Germany in 2012. They lost to the German team 3-2 in their most recent Davis Cup match in 2012.
Australia leads 4-3 in their eight Davis Cup match but Germany won the 1993 Davis Cup final in Dusseldorf.
The home team reached the semifinals in two of the last three years, while Germany will be looking to advance from the first round for the second time since 2011.
“Brisbane is the right venue for this Davis Cup tie. The team always enjoys playing at the Pat Rafter Arena and Australia has had a lot of Davis Cup success there in the past. Both Jordan Thompson and Nick Kyrgios performed at the highest level to ensure we could get the win over the United States and move through to the semis last year. Our tie against Germany will not be easy and the boys will need to be in the very best form, potentially against the likes of Sasha and Misha Zverev, Phillip Kohlschreiber and Jan-Lennard Struff”, said Lleyton Hewitt.
