Jack Draper has decided to end his 2026 season early as injuries continue to mount up.
The Brit was at a ranking of four in the world around 15 months ago but has struggled to come back from the tour consistently due to injuries.
It all started after suffering an injury at Wimbledon last year which then forced him to withdraw from the US Open.
The Brit then made his return to the tour at the Davis Cup against Norway in February but suffered another big injury in Barcelona where he had to withdraw from his match with Tomas Martin Etcheverry.
After returning to the tour in Eastbourne, Montreal and Cincinnati, Draper withdrew from Wimbledon and the US Open as he was not ready for Grand Slam tennis at the moment.
Now Draper has taken to Instagram to reveal that he is ending the season early and will focus on a full recovery in time for the 2027 season, “Don’t usually love lots of words on here but I wanted to update you that I am aiming to return to the tour at the start of 2027,” the Brit explained on Instagram.
“Last summer all the dedication and work I had put into this sport was coming together.
It was all going my way and the path seemed so clear. However a complicated injury made things incredibly challenging and since that moment I’ve been desperately trying to get back and feel as I once did on the court. Managing so much change, adversity and pain has helped me to grow massively in many areas of my life but has also made me feel a level of fatigue that made it difficult to keep going.
“I am taking this time to reset and heal so when I return I am 100% ready to go. Tennis is my purpose and passion and so when I step back on court I want to make sure that there’s nothing holding me back from where I want to go and achieve the things I know I’m capable of. I really appreciate all the continued support from my sponsors, team and people who enjoy following my tennis and I look forward to being back on court to give it my all next year!”
It’s understood by the BBC and other sources that Andy Murray will remain as part of Draper’s team as the Brit looks for a healthy 2027 season.
Despite his injury woes, Draper will not receive a protected ranking and therefore may need to qualify for the Australian Open at the start of the year.
