In just over a week’s time, players will begin their campaign at Wimbledon but some on the Tour will be forced to watch from the sidelines.
11 players have already withdrawn from the singles main draw, according to the official entry lists. Seven of those are in the men’s tournament and four of those are in the women’s. Five of the players on this list have previously reached the fourth round or better at some stage in their careers.
So who will be missing Wimbledon and why?
Carlos Alcaraz – best result: champion 2024, 2025
The most high-profile player missing the grasscourt major is Carlos Alcaraz, who continues to recover from an ongoing wrist injury that has also sidelined him from the French Open. The world No.2 hasn’t played on the Tour since April at the Barcelona Open, and it is unclear as to when his comeback date will be.
According to Diario Sur, a regional newspaper in Marbella, Alcaraz recently visited renowned doctor Ángel Ruiz-Cotorro, known for his work with Rafael Nadal and the Royal Spanish Tennis Federation. It is reported that the outcome of this medical assessment will determine if Alcaraz can return to full training or not.
Arthur Cazauz – best result: R2 2024, 2025
Arthur Cazaux is currently recovering from an operation on his right elbow but is hopeful he can return to action before this season ends. The Frenchman is also looking for a new coach after recently parting ways with Sam Sumyk after ‘not getting the results he expected.’
“My elbow is healing steadily, slowly but surely,” Cazaux told L’Equipe earlier this month. “It was major surgery. They opened up my forearm to harvest the palmaris longus tendon and graft it onto the ligament in my elbow. After that, I had three weeks of immobilization, followed by three weeks of physical therapy to regain my normal range of motion. And for the past two weeks, I’ve been working on my athletic rehabilitation—a phase that will last another five weeks before I can pick up a racket again. It’s still quite a long time…”
Valentin Vacherot – best result: R1 qualifying 2025
Valentin Vacherot, who made headlines last year by winning the Shanghai Masters, is currently dealing with a foot injury. The issue forced him to withdraw from his second round match at the French Open and he is yet to fully recover.
“I picked up an injury to my left foot in Madrid that’s taking a very long time to heal,” Vacherot explained in an Instagram post published on May 28th.
“I’m going to take all the time I need to recover,” he added.
Lorenzo Musetti – best Result: SF 2024
Lorenzo Musetti’s battle with injury continues with his latest issue being a Rectus femoris (quadriceps muscle running down the front of the thigh) injury. Earlier this season, the Italian was also hampered by an upper leg injury that forced him to retire from his Australian Open match against Novak Djokovic, which he was leading by two sets to one. A few weeks after this, he was ruled out of the Miami Masters due to an arm problem.
“I want to update you on my recovery from the injury I sustained in Rome: rehabilitation is going very well and the medical results are encouraging,” Musetti wrote on Instagram.
“Unfortunately, as I have not yet been able to begin a full athletic training program, and after careful evaluation, we have come to the difficult conclusion that I will not be able to participate in Wimbledon this year.”
“It is not an easy decision, but it is the right one.”
Seb Korda – best result: R4 2021
Seb Korda’s withdrawal is officially listed as ‘not ready to play.’ He has struggled with a lower back injury, which flared up during his fourth round match at the Miami Open. This was the last tournament he had played. Korda also missed Wimbledon last year due to a stress fracture in his right shin.
“I definitely, you know, do consider myself one of the top grass players,” Korda told The Athletic earlier this year. “I have a game for it, so it’s just getting the experience — and there’s a lot of great players who are going to be very tough.”
Tomas Machac – best result: R2 2024
Tomas Machac is missing his first Grand Slam event since 2022 due to a left foot injury. During the French Open, he was diagnosed with a tear in the area and is yet to fully recover.
“Unfortunately, the tear in my left foot has not healed enough, and I have to withdraw from Wimbledon,” Machac said in a statement.
“It’s a disappointing moment, but I’m doing everything possible to return for the American swing this summer.”
Holger Rune – best result: QF 2023
Hopes of a return to SW19 for Holger Rune following a serious injury have ended. The Dane has been sidelined by an Achilles injury that he sustained at the end of last year and had to undergo surgery to repair.
“Missing Wimbledon is not an easy decision, but the long-term goal remains the same: To come back stronger and be ready to compete at the highest level,” Rune commented.
“I’m getting closer every day and it’s very satisfying to feel the progress. The spirits are high.”
Hailey Baptiste – best result: R3 2025
Hailey Baptiste’s promising season came to a heartbreaking end at the French Open when she suffered a serious ACL rupture. The American, who defeated Aryna Sabalenka in Madrid earlier this year, has undergone surgery to help repair the damage.
“I’m still having dark moments trying to accept this injury and everything that comes with it. The first challenge was the surgery. I’ve struggled with health anxiety for almost my entire life, and the idea of surgery was terrifying for me. Because of that, this was scary for many reasons outside of tennis. But through it all, I’ve conquered one of my biggest fears.” Baptiste wrote on Instagram.
“The next challenge is these first few weeks of recovery: not being able to sleep, dealing with discomfort 24/7, the frustration of not being able to do basic things by myself, and trying not to watch every f*cking video about an ACL rupture.
“Day by day, the work may look different, but it doesn’t stop.”
Sonay kartal – best result: R4 2025
British player Sonay Kartal has been forced to skip the grass swing due to a persistent back injury linked to a stress fracture. Due to this issue, she hasn’t played since Indian Wells, where she reached the fourth round before losing to Elena Rybakina.
“The last 3 months have been tough for my back, with no big improvements yet allowing me to be back on the court without any limitations. Really tried everything to avoid being in this situation,” Kartal commented.
“This has been the toughest challenge in my career so far and knowing it means I’ll miss the grass season is honestly, well it hurts me a lot.
“Stress fractures are very unforgiving and can’t be rushed, so now it’s about taking the time it needs to heal and come back to tour when it’s healthy and ready for battle.”
Victoria Mboko – best result: R2 2025
Canadian No.1 Mboko was on course to play at Wimbledon before suffering a nasty slip while playing at the HSBC Championships in London. A medical assessment revealed that she has suffered a Medial Collateral Ligament injury in her left knee. It is unclear how long she is out for.
Veronika Kudermetova – best result: R2 2019, 2023, 2025
Veronika Kudermetova’s withdrawal is due to illness but there are few details about what the exact issue she is dealing with.
