Alex De Minaur has spoke about the ‘healthy competition’ he has with girlfriend Katie Boulter ahead of his Queen’s Club quarter-final.
The Australian is into the last eight in London after two wins so far against Gabriel Diallo and Denis Shapovalov.
This follows De Minaur’s run to the final at ‘s-Hertogenbosch before losing to Kamil Majchrzak in the final.
It’s been a great grass court season for De Minaur but will have his sights set on bigger prizes as he is the top seed at Queen’s Club.
Now, De Minaur is aiming to match the result of his girlfriend’s after Katie Boulter reached the semi-finals of Queen’s Club last week where she defeated Elena Rybakina in the quarter-finals before losing to eventual champion Donna Vekic in the semi-finals.
Ahead of his quarter-final De Minaur is motivated to match his partner’s result, “It’s amazing. I think it brings out the best in each other,” the Australian told the ATP website.
“We have a little bit of that competitive nature in us where we both want to do better than each other, and it just brings out a healthy competition. It’s the same way that now that I’m playing here at Queen’s, I’ve got to do my best to try and at least match her performance. Because if not, I’ll never hear the end of it. So that’s my drive and motivation. Let’s say that.”
De Minaur will face Brandon Nakashima in the quarter-finals on Friday.
