Carlos Alcaraz’s absence from the ATP tour will continue into the grass court season as he continues to recover from a wrist injury.

The Spaniard suffered the injury in Barcelona and early scan results showed he would have to skip the rest of the clay court season which includes his Roland Garros title defence.

This was a blow in itself but the blow has got stronger and Alcaraz is now out of the grass court season which includes Wimbledon.

Speaking on social media in Spanish Alcaraz admitted recovery was going well but it was too early for him to return to the tour, “My recovery is going well and I feel much better, but unfortunately I’m still not ready to be able to play, and that’s why I have to withdraw from the grass-court swing at Queen’s and Wimbledon,” Alcaraz stated on Twitter.

“They are two really special tournaments for me and I’ll miss them a lot. We keep working to return as soon as possible!”

Last year Alcaraz won Queen’s Club but lost in the final to Jannik Sinner in four sets in the Wimbledon final.

Currently Alcaraz is roughly 2,500 points behind Sinner in the race to world number one and will aim for a big second half of the season in America.

The Spaniard started his season by completing the career Grand Slam at the Australian Open as well as winning the Doha title.

Wimbledon starts on the 28th of June.
