Alexander Zverev is remaining optimistic over his chances of upsetting Jannik Sinner in the Mutua Madrid Open final.
The German is targeting a third title in Madrid and continued those hopes after a 6-2 7-5 victory over Alexander Blockx on Friday night.
Meanwhile, Jannik Sinner secured a 6-4 6-4 victory over Arthur Fils to book his place into a first Madrid final.
Zverev and Sinner have met in their last three Masters 1000 events with Sinner winning all of them at the semi-final stage.
However, Sinner has never won the title in the Spanish capital while Zverev is a two-time winner and loves the conditions in Madrid.
Although Zverev admits Sinner is ‘unbeatable’ the German is still remaining upbeat over his chances of victory, “He’s World No. 1 and hasn’t lost a match since the beginning of February,” Zverev told the ATP website.
“I think right now he’s definitely the best player in the world. I think I have to play very, very good tennis to have a chance. But I know I’m capable of doing that, and I will try to do my best on Sunday.”
Meanwhile, Sinner is hoping to win a fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title and would be the first player to achieve the feat.
The final will take place at 16:00 BST on Sunday with both players looking to boost their bid for a first Roland Garros title in Carlos Alcaraz’s absence.
