Francisco Cerundolo knocked out an in-form Daniil Medvedev 6-0 4-6 7-5 to reach the fourth round at the Miami Open.
The former semi-finalist in Miami played a stunning match to knock out the in-form Medvedev in three sets.
Medvedev had reached successive finals in Dubai and Indian Wells but was ultimately inconsistent against Cerundolo.
It’s Cerundolo’s fourth time in the last 16 in his last five appearances at the Miami Open and after the match was delighted with the win, “I felt good in my first-round match here, and now I feel way better,” Cerundolo told the ATP website.
“I’m recovering that confidence. The level was there, I was just trying to find it. But now, the Round of 16, so hopefully I can keep it up. It was a great match, super tough. It was my first match against Daniil. He’s probably one of the only guys on Tour who I have never played. I didn’t know what to expect. He has had a great year so far, so I didn’t expect to be up 6-0 in the first set and a break up in the second.
“Suddenly he started playing super good. But I kept believing and stayed there in the match. In the third set, it was a really good set from both and it ended up my way.”
In the fourth round, Cerundolo will face Ugo Humbert who knocked out Alexander Shevchenko in straight sets.
The other big result so far in Miami is Felix Auger-Aliassime being knocked out by Frenchman Terence Atmane.
Atmane scored a 6-3 1-6 6-3 win over the Canadian and the Cincinnati semi-finalist will now face Frances Tiafoe or Jakub Mensik in the fourth round.
