Novak Djokovic claimed his 100th Australian Open win with a 6-3 6-2 6-2 victory over Pedro Martinez.

The Serb was utterly dominant against the underwhelming Spaniard to book his place in the second round in Melbourne.

It was Djokovic’s 100th career win at Melbourne Park and he will be looking for six more victories in his bid to win a record-shattering 25th Grand Slam title.

In his on-court interview Djokovic spoke about the milestone and his past battles in Melbourne, “To be a centurion is pretty nice,” Djokovic was quoted by The Guardian as saying.

“I always give my best … history-making is a great motivation part in the last five, 10 years … once I got myself in the position to make history, I was even more inspired to play my best tennis … that’s what I’ve done. I was fortunate to encounter some people early in my career who taught me to play the long shot, to not burn out too quickly, to take care of my body and my mind and try to have as long a career as possible.

“I am blessed to still be playing and to adding another win is a dream come true. Thank you all for witnessing it.”

It was a dominant performance that typified his performances in Melbourne with the Serb winning ten titles at the Australian Open.

The Serb is happy with the level he displayed but is looking for more wins over the next fortnight, “It felt good tonight. Let’s see how it’s going to feel in a few days’ time,” Djokovic stated in his press conference.

“Performance-wise, the feeling on the court, it was great. I couldn’t ask for more. Obviously a great serving performance. Just overall felt really good on the court that has made me feel good on it for so many times throughout my career. So let’s see what comes my way in few days’ time.”

Djokovic will play Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli in the second round on Thursday.
