Denis Shapovalov has praised his hard work as he defeated Aleksandar Kovacevic 6-4 6-2 to win the Los Cabos title.
Many had written Shapovalov off after the Canadian fell outside the world’s top 100 a year or two ago.
However, the Canadian was determined to prove the doubters wrong and prove them wrong he has as he is back in the seeding spots for Grand Slams.
Now after winning the Dallas title earlier this year, Shapovalov has won the title in Los Cabos defeating Kovacevic in the final.
According to Shapovalov that hard work pays off as he praised his American opponent after the contest, “We have been working for quite a few years now and it hasn’t been easy coming back from injury. But all the work we’ve done, it is really paying off,” Shapovalov told the ATP website.
“I want to congratulate Aleksandar on an amazing week. He beat some great players. Honestly, I didn’t watch the match [vs. Rublev] yesterday, but my coach told me you played insane, so, congrats on an amazing week. I think you are an amazing player. I love your game. Obviously, us one-handed backhand [players], we gotta stick together. Definitely love watching you play.”
The title is his fourth career ATP title and he will now move up five places to 28 in the world when the rankings come out on Monday.
