Hubert Hurkacz praised the level of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz but believed tennis’ past greats would be able to adapt.

The rivalry of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz has elevated to new heights over the last couple of months.

It was Alcaraz who saved Championship points as he defeated Sinner in a gripping final set tiebreak at the Roland Garros final which has been hailed as one of the greatest Grand Slam finals of all-time.

Meanwhile, Sinner gained his revenge to take the Wimbledon in a four set victory to stop the Spaniard from winning a third consecutive title at SW19.

The head-to-head is now at 8-5 to Alcaraz and it’s only natural the rivalry is being compared to some of tennis’ greatest including the ‘big four.’

Having his say on the topic former world number six Hubert Hurkacz praised the rivalry but admitted that tennis’ greats of the past would find a way to adapt, “It’s difficult to say who wins when they are all playing their best tennis,” Hurkacz was quoted by tennis infinity as saying.

I feel like the level is growing every single year, and obviously, we can say the level is better than it was ten years ago, but that is not to say Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Andy could not get to where we are now. They also improved every year and raised the bar, so if they were playing now, they would still be improving.

The gap between Sinner and Alcaraz and the rest of the tour is growing with each passing way as they are comfortably the two best players in the world right now.

However, Hurkacz isn’t giving up hope and believes the rest of the tour is motivated to narrow the gap, “What we can say is Jannik and Carlos are playing at an incredible level now, and it is up to the rest of us to work hard to keep up with them,” Hurkacz emphasised.

That’s why I wake up every morning and work so hard to try and reach those levels. They are setting a big target now, so that is what we have to aim for.

Hurkacz is currently 41 in the world and over 7,000 points behind Alcaraz in second and over 9,000 points behind Sinner.
