Matteo Berrettini has reassured fans that he is still healthy after withdrawing from the BMW Open in Munich.
The Italian made a strong start to the clay court season after winning the title in Marrkaech, which was his first title in a couple of years.
However Berrettini failed to continue the momentum in Monte-Carlo as he exited the tournament in the opening round to Miomir Kecmanovic.
The Italian was expected to continue his comeback in Munich but Berrettini has announced that he will now take part in a small training block before playing Madrid and Rome.
Speaking on Instagram Berrettini revealed his plans for the next couple of months and reassured followers that he is healthy, “After the result in Monte-Carlo, I was very excited and eager to get back on court in Munich,” Berrettini explained.
“However, my team felt it was most beneficial to my comeback and season to have another short training block ahead of the tournaments in Madrid and Rome.
“I am healthy and feel good, and I can’t wait to get back on-court in Madrid. Very sorry to the tournament and tennis fans in Munich. Thanks for the support and see you all soon.“
Last week Berrettini jumped 51 places up the rankings to 86 in the world as he looks to solidify his place as one of the best players in the world.
The Italian will continue that search when he takes to court at the next Masters 1000 event in Madrid which starts on the 25th of April.
