Andy Murray is set to face a familiar foe in Richard Gasquet in Cincinnati next week as he returns to singles action.
The Brit took a wildcard into next week’s Masters 1000 event as he looks to continue his recovery from a hip resurfacing surgery.
After eight months of absence from the singles game, Murray will be looking to make strides when he plays Richard Gasquet in his first match in Ohio.
They have long history, having played on eleven occasions which included a 2015 meeting in Cincinnati which saw the Brit come out on top.
Should Murray win his first match, then fourth seed Dominic Thiem will await in the second round as the Austrian looks to recover from Illness.
Despite not being on top form in Montreal, Thiem managed to reach the quarter-finals after beating Denis Shapovalov and Marin Cilic.
Murray and Thiem are in the quarter of Alexander Zverev as well as being in the half of Rafael Nadal, who looks to compete in Cincinnati after missing last year’s edition.
Djokovic and Federer Return
Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer return to action for the first time since their epic Wimbledon final, which the Serb won 13-12 in the final set.
After their epic battle, they have been drawn in the top half of the draw as they look to face each other in the semi-finals in what would be a rematch from last year’s final, with Djokovic easing to victory.
For Djokovic, he will play either Sam Querrey or Pierre-Hughes Herbert with the likes of John Isner, Nick Kyrgios and Montreal semi-finalist Karen Khachanov waiting on his way to the semis.
As for Federer, he takes on Juan Ignacio Londero or Matteo Berrettini in his first challenge of the week. In search of an eighth Cincinnati title, the Swiss will then potentially have to contend with Stan Wawrinka and Daniil Medvedev or Stefanos Tsitsipas if he wants to make the last four.
It is set to be another intriguing tournament in Cincinnati, with the road to the US Open well underway.
