Roger Federer sealed his 70th career win in Basel after he cruised past Daniil Medvedev 6-1 6-4 to reach the final.
The top seed broke four times in the match as he thrashed a poor Medvedev in 64 minutes to reach yet another final. The win means it’s his 70th career win in Basel and extends his winning streak to 19 consecutive victories.
The loss for Medvedev means his outside chances of reaching the ATP World Tour Finals are over and will look to end his season strongly in Paris next week.
As for Federer he now plays Romanian qualifier Marius Copil in the final after he shocked second seed Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-7(6) 6-4 in just over two and a half hours.
In his previous matches Federer struggled for form and had very slow starts but he learned his lesson as he took a double break lead in no time.
The Russian only managed to win 48% first service points and he was made to pay for it as the 20 time grand slam secured the set in 19 minutes.
Unfortunately for the 7th seed he wasn’t much better in the second set as he played just as bad and easily gave away another two breaks of serve.
Despite 5-1 becoming 5-4, the defending champion held off a streaky Medvedev to reach yet another Basel final and extend his winning streak to 19 matches.

The Swiss will now play his 14th final in Basel and faces a new challenge in Marius Copil who blitzed his way past Alexander Zverev 6-3 6-7(6) 6-4.
The Romanian hit 25 aces as he edged past the German in just over two and a half hours to seal his second top 10 win of the week after beating Cilic in the second round.
As for Zverev he will now head to Paris and the ATP World Tour Finals having reached nine semi-finals in 2018.
For Copil tomorrow will be his second career final and his first at ATP 500 level. Tomorrow’s final will be the first time Copil and Federer have met in their career.
