World number one, Simona Halep is upset at the tournament organisers after scheduling her semi-final match 17 hours after her quarter-final match.

The Romanian managed to beat sixth seed Caroline Garcia 7-5 6-1 to reach the last four in Montreal and set up a semi-final showdown with Ashleigh Barty. However after her hard fought win the world number one took her frustrations out on the tournament organisers after scheduling her match with Barty 17 hours after her match with Garcia had finished.

The top seed had to play two matches in one day the day before and her semi-final match with Barty means that her Australian opponent will have a six hour head start on Halep as she was the first match and this is something that Halep wasn’t very happy about, “It’s definitely not good. Because if you look at the schedule, I think I’m the only one person and player who has the worst schedule during the week,” Halep stated.

“I think this happens almost every tournament. I saw that tomorrow (Saturday) I play at 1:00. So I think the WTA is a little bit upset with me because they always try to put me down, I can say, in the schedule. And I’m very upset about this.”

The Romanian has every right to be upset as in Toronto, the men’s tournament, they have split the sessions into halves so that the bottom half play in the day session whereas the top half play at night. However they clearly haven’t done this in Montreal and Halep is the one suffering the consequences as of this.

Despite this, the Romanian will have to compete against Ashleigh Barty in the semi-finals at 1:00 local time while the other semi-final between Sloane Stephens and defending champion Elina Svitolina takes place at 6pm local time.
