French Open girls’ champion Rebeka Masarova has escaped unhurt after being involved in a car accident in France.

The 17-year-old was travelling to an ITF $25,000 tournament in France with her mother and brother before they crashed off the road and rolled their car four times. Fortunately, all three managed to escape the car without injury thanks to broken windows.

“I don’t know how but the thing is we got off the road and we had no control of the car anymore. As soon as the car got off the road it went crazy. I can still remember everything and it was like a movie. The car spinned around about 3 or 4 times before it stopped with the car being upside down.” She wrote in a lengthy Facebook post.

Masarova made headlines earlier this year at the Gstaad Open where she reached the semifinals in her first WTA tournament, elevating her to a career ranking high of 305th in the world. Since her breakthrough, the Swiss player hasn’t played a match on the tour and has been training at the BTT Tennis Academy in Valldoreix, close to Barcelona.

Reflecting upon her ordeal, Masarova believes that it was god who saved her from death in what has been a traumatic experience for the youngster and her family.

“I don’t know how I will ever thank God enough for what he did. He just saved our lives. Whatever he has in mind with our lives has to be something great and I will do the best in every day, because I know that yesterday could have been our last but God decided it not to be!” She later wrote.

Despite the incident, Masarova still intends to participate in the French ITF event. In the first round she will play French qualifier Amandine Cazeaux.
