Novak Djokovic will end 2015 with one of the best seasons of his career. The world No.1 has made the final in every Grand Slam tournament, winning three of them. Outside of his Grand Slam triumphs, he has also reached seven ATP finals, winning titles in Rome, Monte Carlo, Indian Wells and Miami. His 2015 trophy cabinet could expand further with the upcoming China Open and the ATP year-end finals.

Leading up to the China Open, the Serbian currently has a 2015 win-loss of 63-5. During the US Open he defeated Roger Federer to claim his 10th Grand Slam title. The win still leaves him trailing to Federer’s Grand Slam singles record of 17 titles. A record which Djokovic hopes to break according to sportklub.rs.

Roger has 17 compared to my 10 Grand Slam titles. I agree that is a big difference. It is not easy to win one, never mind seven Grand Slam titles. In addition, Federer is still in great shape. But, as I said, I always set myself new goals, as long as I stay on the ground. I think I can get to Roger’s number. Better to say, I’d like to make that happen“. Djokovic said.

The comments were made during the lead up to his exhibition match against Rafael Nadal in Thailand. At the age of 28 Djokovic could potentially have many more years left on the tour to achieve his goal. Three out of the current top five are aged over 30 (Stan Wawrinka at 30, Tomas Berdych at 30 and Roger Federer at 34).

The earliest Djokovic can match Federer’s Grand Slam record will be at the 2017 Wimbledon championships if he remains unbeaten in every Grand Slam, a seemingly impossible task. The last man to win all four Grand Slams within the same year was Rod Laver in 1969.

Djokovic’s next tournament will be the China Open next week. The Serbian has dominated the tournament in recent years and currently boasts a win-loss of 24-0. Since 2009 he has won the tournament five out of six times. The only exception was in 2011 when he withdrew from the tournament due to a torn muscle.
