Whilst full credit should be given to Arthur Fery for his incredible run at Wimbledon, tennis historian and journalist Steve Flink has questioned the manner of Flavio Cobolli’s loss to the Brit.
On Wednesday, Fery became only the second wild card in history to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals after producing an emphatic straight-sets win over Cobolli, whom he bagelled in the last set. The underdog has also come through two five-set marathons earlier in the tournament and now faces his biggest test yet in the shape of Alexander Zverev, who beat Taylor Fritz in straight sets.

If that wasn’t enough drama in the men’s tournament, eyes will also be on Novak Djokovic to see how he has recovered from his sensational win on Tuesday evening, which ended just five minutes before the 11pm curfew. The 24-time Grand Slam champion was on court for five hours and 15 minutes before seeing off Felix Auger-Aliassime in what was one of the longest matches of his storied career. He will next face defending champion Jannik Sinner, who hasn’t dropped a set in his four previous matches.
