Marta Kostyuk made it 15 consecutive wins after the Ukrainian defeated Iga Swiatek 7-5 6-1 to reach the quarter-finals at Roland Garros.

The 15th seed continued her incredible winning streak after she knocked out the four-time champion.

As for Swiatek it is disappointment after the Pole had an impressive first week but committed a catalogue of errors on Court Philippe-Chatrier.

Now, Kostyuk will face Elina Svitolina or Belinda Bencic for a place in the Roland Garros semi-finals.

The opening set saw both players tight and nervy but it was Swiatek who was playing the better tennis in the opening stages as she created break point in the opening game.

Despite not breaking serve in the opening game, Swiatek played an immaculate return game in the seventh game to break for a 4-3 lead.

However, Swiatek’s downfall began in the following game as she committed some uncharacteristic errors on the forehand and was broken back to love.

Both players was erratic and edgy towards the end of set with Kostyuk needing some luck on the way as she took a 6-5 lead.

There was some good winners from Swiatek but some tactical errors saw Kostyuk predict where Swiatek was going.

A backhand cross-court winner saw Kostyuk break to 30 to take the opening set in 60 minutes as an upset was on the cards.

The upset was in a bit of doubt when Swiatek broke serve at the start of the second set in the opening game.

However, Swiatek continued to make erratic errors on the forehand side while Kostyuk was ripping winners from all corners of the court.

It was a confident and fearless performance while Swiatek’s vulnerabilities were on show in less favourable conditions for the Pole.

Six games in a row secured an impressive win for Kostyuk to book her place in a first ever Roland Garros quarter-final.

As for Swiatek this is the earliest she has exited Roland Garros since her first appearance here in 2019 and there is plenty to think about ahead of her Wimbledon title defence next month.
