Matteo Berrettini dismantled Daniil Medvedev in Monaco as the Italian didn’t lose a single game on the red dirt.

It was an incredible day for the former Wimbledon finalist who didn’t drop a game in a ruthless display against Medvedev.

Meanwhile, Medvedev had an awful day at the office as he didn’t create a single game point and fell to the worst defeat of his career.

It was the first time Medvedev was double bageled in his career as he smashed several rackets during the contest.

On the contrary Berrettini hailed the performance as the best of his career, “I think it was one of the best performances of my life,” the Italian told the ATP website.

“I think I missed three shots in the entire match and it is not easy against a tricky player like Daniil. I think the game plan was perfect and my weapons were working. I faced two break points in the first game and then after that it felt I was playing better than him. I was not expecting to win zero, zero like that. But I kept my focus as I know one break or two breaks is not enough sometimes, so I kept pushing.”

The Italian has won all 16 games he has played so far having won his opener against Roberto Bautista Agut 4-0 RET.

That form will hope to continue for Berrettini who will take on Joao Fonseca in the third round in Monaco.

Zverev Survives Garin Scare

Meanwhile, Alexander Zverev began his clay court season in Monaco with a tough win over qualifier Cristian Garin.

The German produced a monumental comeback as he was 4-0 and 5-2 down in the deciding set with the Chilean dictating play.

However, Zverev survived a big scare to defeat Garin 4-6 6-4 7-5 in a near three hour contest as the two-time semi-finalist in Monaco survives another day.

After the match Zverev was honest about his level as he will hope the rest of the clay court season will get better, “My level was not there at all to be honest,” Zverev explained to the ATP website.

“But it was my first clay-court match in 11 months. I didn’t have much time to prepare as I played well in Miami. I am happy to get the win. It was a tough match and he is someone playing well, especially here. At the end of the day, sometimes it is just about getting the win.”

Zverev will now face Zizou Bergs in the third round on Thursday after the Belgian knocked out Andrey Rublev.
