Marta Kostyuk is pleased with the direction of her tennis after she thrashed Jessica Pegula 6-1 6-4 in Madrid.
The Ukrainian entered this week’s tournament in Madrid having won the title in Rouen the week before and has certainly brought that confidence into this week.
A dominant display from Kostyuk as she beat Pegula for the third time in her career to reach the fourth round in Spain.
After the match Kostyuk was pleased with her victory over Pegula, “I played Jessica this year already, and she’s such a tough player, such a solid player, so I was going into this match fully ready for a big battle. I’m very, very happy to finish this in two,” Kostyuk stated to the WTA website.
It was a good start to the season for Kostyuk as she reached the final in Brisbane before her form tailed off.
However, Kostyuk has now won eight consecutive matches since Miami and is in good form heading into a crucial part of the season.
Speaking about her form Kostyuk has admitted that her form is on an upward trajectory, “I think I’m definitely enjoying playing tennis since I got injured in the Australian Open,” Kostyuk admitted.
“I had to rethink a little bit how to approach this and how much it costs me to be on this court — my energy, my physical energy. I’m very happy with the adjustments that we made, I’m very happy with the progress that we’re making as a team, and I think that’s all that matters.
“I’ve never had such a long winning streak in my career, so we must be doing something right!”
Kostyuk will now face Caty McNally for a place in the Madrid quarter-finals.
