Tuesday features all eight matches in the round of 16 from the men’s singles draw, as well as the first two women’s singles quarterfinals.
In the absence ofan injured Carlos Alcaraz, Jannik Sinner is a prohibitive favorite to win his fifth consecutive Masters 1000 title this week in Madrid. But that also leaves plenty of room for new names to thrive, including 19-year-old Spaniard Rafael Jodar, who has been thrilling the crowds in Madrid during this past week.
In women’s singles, Aryna Sabalenka has been just as dominant as Sinner has been on the men’s side. And with the only woman to defeat Sabalenka across the past six months, Elena Rybakina, losing on Monday, can anybody stop Sabalenka from winning this event for a fourth time out of the last six years?
Here’s a rundown of the most notable matches on Tuesday (in chronological order, all times local):
Jannik Sinner (1) vs. Cameron Norrie (19) – 11:00am on Manolo Santana Stadium
Surprisingly, this is the first career meeting between these two. Sinner is now 26-2 on the year, and is on a 19-match winning streak. Norrie is a just 14-9 this season, and this equals his best career result at a Masters 1000 event on clay.
Leylah Fernandez (24) vs. Mirra Andreeva (9) – Not Before 1:00pm on Manolo Santana Stadium
Andreeva scarcely survived the round of 16 on Monday, requiring three sets and nearly three hours to overcome 63rd-ranked Anna Bondar, her third consecutive victory over a Hungarian during this tournament. She’s split two meetings with Fernandez, though they haven’t played since 2023, when Andreeva had not yet achieved a ranking higher than 50th in the world.
Jiri Lehecka (11) vs. Lorenzo Musetti (6) – Second on Arantxa Sanchez Stadium
Musetti has been suffering from a leg injury, and is a modest 11-5 this season. But he has yet to drop a set through two rounds. However, he’s 1-2 against Lehecka, who reached the semifinals here two years ago, and the final just a few weeks ago in Miami.
Vit Kopriva vs. Rafael Jodar (WC) – Not Before 4:00pm on Manolo Santana Stadium
Jodar has now accumulated 29 match wins this year at all levels, and followed up his straight-set thumping of Alex de Minaur with a three-set win over Joao Fonseca on Sunday night. The 19-year-old has now reached the fourth round of a Masters event for the first time in just his third appearance. This is also 28-year-old Kopriva’s first time advancing this far at this level. After upsetting Andrey Rublev in the second round, he benefitted from a mid-match retirement via Arthur Rinderknech.
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs. Casper Ruud (12) – Third on Arantxa Sanchez Stadium
These two multi-time Major finalists are both looking to become a Major title threat again, following a few subpar seasons. Tsitsipas played some of his finest tennis in well over a year to upset eighth-seeded Alexander Bublik during the first week, while Ruud has only dropped a total of five games across four sets to this stage. Casper leads their tour-level head-to-head 3-2 overall, and 2-1 on clay.
Aryna Sabalenka (1) vs. Hailey Baptiste (30) – Not Before 8:00pm on Manolo Santana Stadium

Sabalenka survived a stern test on Monday from Naomi Osaka, while Baptiste somehow survived an extremely dramatic second-set loss to Belinda Bencic, which saw Baptiste double fault away multiple match points. Yet the American managed to secure the third set, to achieve her second consecutive WTA 1000 quarterfinal. Her first WTA 1000 quarterfinal was also against Sabalenka, which occurred last month in Miami, and went to the World No.1 6-4, 6-4.
Daniil Medvedev (7) vs. Flavio Cobolli (10) – Last on Arantxa Sanchez Stadium
Medvedev has bounced back nicely from an embarrassing 6-0, 6-0 loss earlier this month at the hands of Matteo Berrettini. Cobolli has already reached two ATP finals this year, including just last week in Munich. Medvedev is 2-0 against Cobolli, but they’ve never met on this surface.
Jakub Mensik (23) vs. Alexander Zverev (2) – Last on Manolo Santana Stadium
In nine career appearances in Madrid, Zverev has now advanced to the fourth round or better all nine times. Mensik is looking to achieve his second Madrid quarterfinal, in just his third Madrid appearance. This is a first-time encounter.
