Iga Swiatek has announced Francisco Roig as her new coach heading into the clay court season.
The Wimbledon champion hasn’t had the best start to the season with the Pole yet to reach a final at an individual event this season.
It has also meant that Swiatek is not inside the world’s top three after a disappointment US hard court swing.
This has resulted in Swiatek parting ways with Wim Fissette after 15 months having the Belgian as her coach.
Now, Swiatek is aiming to look for a new change in direction and the Pole believes Francisco Roig will provide that change.
Swiatek announced the news on her Instagram story with a picture of the two and the caption, “Welcome to the team, Francisco! Very excited for this new chapter.”
Roig had started the season with Emma Raducanu before the pair split up due to the Brit not having a clear identity about her style of play.
The Spaniard then briefly paired up with Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard before the pair split up after the Miami Open.
The news isn’t a great deal of surprise given how often Swiatek trains at the Rafa Nadal Academy and Roig’s record with Nadal at Roland Garros with Swiatek’s career in Paris going in a similar trajectory.
However, whether Swiatek’s results will change and whether Swiatek will be able to develop a clear strategy for the coming months will be put into question until the evidence proves otherwise.
The next scheduled tournament for Swiatek will be in Stuttgart on the 13th of April.
