Moise Kouame revealed he received a text message from his idol Novak Djokovic after his win in Miami.
A 5-7 6-4 6-4 victory for the French wildcard over Zachary Svajda saw the 17 year-old into the second round in Miami.
The win saw Kouame create Miami Open history as he was the youngest ever winner at the tournament.
However, something even better happened to Kouame as he received a text from 24-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic who congratulated him on the achievement.
Recalling the encounter to the Tennis Channel Kouame admitted he didn’t know what to respond to Djokovic in what was a dream come true to receive a message from Djokovic, “I have a small secret… After the win, Novak texted me,” the 17 year-old was quoted by the ATP website as saying.
“I’m so nervous, I don’t know what to answer. He texted me something like, ‘Big match today. Congrats. Hopefully you will go far.’ Maybe [I should reply]: ‘Thank you, Novak. Thank you, my idol.’ No… I don’t know! Imagine having your idol DM you like this… It’s the coolest thing ever.”
Kouame is hoping to replicate Djokovic’s career as the Frenchman was born four years after the Serb won his first ever Masters 1000 event match back in 2005.
However, Kouame is hoping those dreams and ambitions become reality, “I hope, one day, they won’t be dreams, but a reality, and this is really what I am working for,” the Frenchman told the ATP website.
Kouame will hope those dreams continue as he takes on 21st seed Jiri Lehecka on Court Five on Friday.
