Jannik Sinner matched another record at the Miami Open as the Italian defeated Damir Dzumhur to reach the third round.

The Italian produced a dominant opening round win as he defeated the Bosnian 6-3 6-3 to reach the third round.

After his title wins in Paris and Indian Wells, Sinner has now won 24 consecutive sets at Masters 1000 level and has tied Novak Djokovic’s record.

Speaking after his win over Dzumhur Sinner spoke about the record and how being more clinical at the net has helped his game, “I feel like the scoreboard matters at times,” Sinner told the ATP website.

“For me, I try to improve as a player and put myself in the position to play as many matches as possible. I always treat every opponent in the same way, trying to come on court and do my best with a great attitude and trying to go for it.

“For me, the transition game is very important. It’s a part that we’ve tried to improve a lot. It also depends a bit, day by day. Today, starting off with a break straightaway, I tried to be a bit aggressive. At times it worked very well, at times I made a couple of unforced errors, but I didn’t have a lot of time to adjust here. It’s very different than in Indian Wells.

“First-round matches are never easy, so I’m happy.”

Sinner will now face 30th seed Corentin Moutet for a place in the fourth round after the Frenchman defeated Tomas Machac in three sets.

Shelton Eliminated By Shevchenko

Meanwhile, Ben Shelton suffered an early exit in Florida as he lost to Alexander Shevchenko in three sets.

The Kazakh scored his third top ten win of his career after knocking out the eighth seed, 6-7(3) 7-6(3) 6-3.

After the match Shevchenko admitted that remaining concentrated was the key to success, “It takes 100 per cent to stay in the match all the time against these kind of players,” Shevchenko told the ATP website.

“There was a moment that I was feeling a little bit tired, but as soon as I got the momentum back, I was bringing the energy back. I’m an emotional guy and I love when my team also is pumped. I loved every second of it.”

Shevchenko will now face 31st seed Ugo Humbert in the third round.
