Carlos Alcaraz has extended his outdoor hard court winning streak to 30 matches as he destroyed Arthur Fils 6-2 6-1 in Doha.
It was an incredible performance from the world number one as he produced a dominant display to defeat Fils.
The victory secured a ninth ATP 500 title as he expanded his outdoor hard court winning streak to 30 matches which includes the titles at the US Open and Australian Open.
After the win Alcaraz spoke about setting new goals and is happy with his triumph in Doha after losing in the quarter-finals last year, “I came this year hungry for more,” Alcaraz told the ATP website.
“I think after every tournament, we just have to set new goals. I’m just really happy and proud of everything I have done with my team on and off the court. It’s been a really strong start to the year. It wasn’t easy… I had to be strong mentally with my team. I’m just playing great tennis and I’m really happy about this week. This trophy means a lot to me.”
Despite the convincing defeat, it has still been an incredible week for Fils who is playing his third tournament of the year.
After suffering injury at Roland Garros last year, Fils has had to rehabilitate his way back to the tour and has achieved immediate results with Goran Ivanisevic in his corner.
The Frenchman will climb up seven places to 33 in the world when the rankings come out on Monday and is happy with his progress in Qatar, “It’s been eight long months with my injury,” Fils explained to the ATP website.
“So in a time like this, you just have to think about the last eight months when I was struggling, not playing tennis. I just want to thank my team… Today was not the day but I think we did a hell of a job.”
